For Grade 1, I choose LAFS.1.RI.2.5. This standard is to know and use various text features to locate key facts or informationin a text. This means to use chapter headlines, the table of contents, glossary and chapter summary at the end, to locate different information in a text. I feel prepared to implement this standard. I have used table of contents and glossaries in my own studying to help me. Because I use these different strategies, I feel prepared to implement it in my classroom. I would start off my lesson introducing these and what they do. Then I would probably do a scavenger hunt and a fun interactive lesson to help my students use it correctly.
Using the CPALMS Educator Toolkit, I picked grade 1 and went to the English Language Arts section. I clicked on and read up on LAFS. 1.RF.1.1. This was about demonstrating understanding of the organization and basic features of print. This standard involves recognizing and distinguishing between different features of a sentence. For example, the use of different end of sentence punctuation like exclamation points, question marks and periods. As well as sentence capitalization at the beginning of a sentence. I would use this because it gives different resources of how to teach it differently and effectively. It includes practices, definitions and examples.
I think it is very important to be proficient in Internet searching as a teacher. Being proficient allows you to save time searching and be able to better find what you are looking for. Of the Internet searching skills used this week, I like the (-). This tool allows you to stop searches for certain words. I like this because sometimes when I am looking up stuff for classes, I get results as to not what I wanted. This will allow me to not get those results, save time and be more proficient.
