For my teacher's website, I looked at the grade school's website that I attended. I found the school's classroom tab and clicked on a second grade teacher's page. It took me to a second link that was about second grade. This teacher's website had different tabs. The tabs were as followed, all about her, weekly schedule, homework, resources, reading/vocabulary, science, social studies and religion. No matter what tab you clicked on the side bar with all the tabs and a link to the home page was there. I liked the layout and theme of the website, but I did notice that it was a little unorganized. All the homework and resources were just listed and at first glance it could get lost. Overall, I really liked the theme and tab layout of her website. As a future educator, I want to create my own website and keep it updated weekly, so parents and guardians know what is going on in our classroom and to keep them updated on current events. homework and more.

I plan on using technology in my class. I envision that I create a class website to keep the parents and guardians updated on everything we are doing in the class and updated on current events. I also plan to use technology to send out weekly newsletters on what we are doing, our schedule, events, field trips and more. I believe using a website and a newsletter will keep me on top of my schedule and make sure that I am organized in what I am doing each week. I also plan on using different online resources like Khan Academy, Youtube and other sources to keep my students interactive. Depending on what grade level I teach will determine what online resources I use, because if I teach younger children I can not expect them to create blogs or websites.

My experience using PBWorks was most definitely an experience. I enjoyed using it and thought it was extremely easy to use and a good tool. Although my page was one of the pages that was completely lost, so I did not get to see my overall group work. Although my work was lost, I am impartial to it, because I know it was just technology acting up and that it happens. I did like using PBWorks when I did use it and would consider using it again in the future.

  1. Hi Brooke! I really enjoyed your description of incorporating informative tools like a class website and newsletter with interactive online resources like Khan Academy and Youtube. I think Youtube could serve as interesting education tool, because students could study a topic through video making. I believe this would be very engaging for students interested in video making technology, while also a great way for students to learn collaborative skills which video making requires. I also agree with your assessment of PB Works. Despite the the technical difficulties, I found using PB Works very straightforward, and one of the easiest website builders I have used.

  2. Hi Brooke!
I have never used Khan Academy, but I have heard great things about it and the tools they offer. The coolest part is it is a non-profit so all resources are essentially free for students and teachers. I probably would not use it in my classroom just because I am more familiar with other site that offer the same resources and tools, but to each their own, especially when all these platforms are putting out quality content! I enjoyed reading your post!

  3. I'm going to be honest - I got flashbacks hearing the name "Khan Academy" again... I definitely see where it's helpful, but I don't think the teachers that I had implemented it right. I like the idea of using a weekly newsletter to sort of schedule yourself, my only thought would be to make sure you aren't keeping yourself too tight to the schedule - being flexible enough to adapt if the students need more time.
